Hugh McLeod established Assynt Associates in 2003, producing briefing and analysis on terrorism and country risk issues to large companies and government entities with interests in the Middle East, Asia and beyond. In April their eleven-strong-team became part of Stirling Assynt (Europe), of which Hugh is Chief Operating Officer. Briefing Subject: Al-Qaeda failed to land a major blow on the West last year or in the first part of this. Its Iraq franchise remains under pressure. The jihadist movement prospers in places like Afghanistan and Pakistan, though, and there has been a marked upsurge in the number of countries in which significant al-Qaeda attacks have been executed or attempted.
